Dark Yet Rustic

Last week, I provided a good friend with some ideas on how to decorate a living room with dark flooring.

Though this image doesn’t come with a black concrete floor, the coloring is key. A painted black wall with light reclaimed wood pieces along with white accents looks damn awesome.

I love the mismatched chairs, and of course–most especially–the swivel stool. Also, who could miss the wood-paneled wall? Awesome.

Below is another great kitchen idea–featuring dark wooden floors. This photo is from a “guest house” in Australia. Wouldn’t we all like to be so lucky to have this as a place to throw our couch-surfing friends into? Um, yes.

Open shelving and reclaimed wood island open the space and bring in more ‘air’ and ‘light’ despite the dark floor. What’s great here is to see that dark furnishings don’t distract or make the place feel like the lair of the latest Disney villain.
